The Ragdoll is known for its signature luxurious single layer coat and generally requires less maintenance, with decreased tangles and matting than other long haired breeds, however do require a thorough combing a few times a week.

Rarely needed but sometimes necessary

A steel comb is our recommendation

Comb Your Kitten a few times a week

Establish a routine and making combing sessions brief,  paying particular attention to the areas behind the ears and groin. Offering special treats always makes for a rewarding and positive experience

Bathing
Occasionally

Ragdolls are fastidious groomers, but there may be times when a bath becomes necessary due to a soiled bottom or messy face. A towel lined sink makes them feel secure. Water softly introduced using a cup versus a sprayer can make them less intimidated.

Nail trims

Your kitten will come accustomed to nail trims, we start very early acclimating to the pressure on their tiny toes as well as the sound and feel of the nail clippers. We feel that human newborn clippers are easier to hold in your hand and just the perfect size. Clip the tip of the nail and avoid the quick. No one ever said all nails have to be clipped at once, take your time.

Dental Care

Because dental disease affects more than 70% of cats by the age of three, its a good idea to get in the habit of checking your kittens mouth for signs of redness or sensitivity. Your kitten will come accustomed to frequent mouth checks and the feeling of a soft toothbrush along their teeth and gums.
We have multiple dental products that we like listed in our storefront.

Litter Box Etiquette

Litter box training begins with the first introduction of solid food. Your kitten will have several weeks of litter training here and will have a solid understanding of how to use it. Transition to new homes requires a few "musts". Multi cat homes must have multiple litter boxes and multi level homes must have a litter box on each level. Litter box quantities can be reduced as the kitten ages.

Diet

Your kitten will be accustomed to eating a variety of high quality canned kitten food as it's main source of nutrition. Dry kibble is offered at all times for between meal snacking. Calorie restrictions are not necessary during the first year of life due to substantial growth. Daily fresh water in clean dishes to encourage drinking and minimize bacteria.
